Surviving are his wife Eleanor, children Jean (Doug) Thomas of Cedar Rapids, IA, Barb (Chris) Milke of Davenport, IA, Jay (Todd Tullis) Groene of Atlanta, GA, Brad (Julie) Groene, of Colchester, CT, Brian (Robin) Groene of Valparaiso, IN, and Jacki (Dar) Hakimzadeh of Fulshear, TX; his 11 grandchildren, Alyssa (Ben Mena) Thomas and Derek (Tracie) Thomas, Emily and Chelsea Milke, Connor and Hailey Groene, Chris Cather and Courtney Groene, Alexander, Ashley, and Allie Hakimzadeh; three great grandsons, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father in infancy, his mother and his two half-sisters Mary Ann Owers and Donna Hartwig, as well as many beloved aunts and uncles. The Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Jack Groene will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 24th at Divine Mercy Parish ~ St. John Catholic Church. The Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz will be the celebrant. The Des Moines County Resurrection Choir will provide music. The Des Moines County Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Gethsemane Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the funeral mass. A Celebration of Life luncheon will be held following the mass at St. John's Cafeteria. According to Jack's wishes, cremation will be accorded following the funeral mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family or to Burlington Notre Dame Foundation (St. Jude Tuition Assistance).
