Douglas Andrew Hopkins of Englewood, Florida passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, days before his 72nd birthday after a very full life and a long battle with diabetes. Born to George Edward and Nora Mae Hopkins (Meyer) on November 19, 1946 in St. Louis, Missouri, where Doug would live most of his life after graduating from the University of Missouri-Rolla, then working as Director of Public Works for the city of Town & Country, among other municipalities including St. Charles, Maplewood, Arnold, and Bridgeton. Doug was the youngest brother of Ronald Hopkins (wife, Jackie), Joyce Remley, and Sandy Frohmann (husband, Ron), and is also survived by his former wife Lydia Hopkins (Ruehmling), their daughter Andrea Knox (Hopkins), her husband Peter, and granddaughter Riley. He is predeceased by his sister, Darlene Dillman (Reinheimer). Doug will be long remembered by those that he loved to help as a generous and courageous adventurer, a civil engineer, and a self-proclaimed 'honey badger'. e he'd meet on his journey in life, he was fond of quoting in his own way: "No matter how big the sea may be, sometimes two boats meet." A gathering in remembrance is being planned in the St. Louis area for December 15, 2018. His ashes are to be scattered at a later date in the Sir Francis Drake Channel in the British Virgin Islands where he loved to sail, per his request.
