was attending their school functions, letting them ride on the tractor around his home (affectionately called "the farm"), picking blueberries or harvesting the garden together, the grandchildren were a light in his life. He was very proud of them and their accomplishments as they grew up.
During his final days, Phil was surrounded by family, love and laughter. He enjoyed many servings of strawberry ice cream and was comforted by the amazing nursing staff in the 3 Broadway wing. The family thanks them for their generosity, compassion and kindness during his stay.
Phil also leaves behind his camping family at Coldbrook Campsite in Gansevoort, New York. He was an avid camper and loved spending many weekends sitting by the fire and riding his golf cart throughout the resort.
Besides his wife, Kathy, he is survived by his daughter: Lynn (Fred) Robbins of Hopewell Junction, NY and three sons: Philip Harter, Steven (Diane) Harter of Poughkeepsie, NY and John (Claudia) Harter of Cary, NC; one sister: Karen (Walter) Markert of Ballston Spa, NY, and his step-daughter, Aimee Gadaleto of New Paltz; 11 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and 3 nieces.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 30, 2018 from 3 - 7 pm at Copeland Funeral Home, 162 South Putt Corners Road, New Paltz, NY. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 10:00 am at the funeral home, followed by burial at the Ulster County Veterans Cemetery @ New Paltz with full military honors.
