of the Korean War, serving the United States Marie Corps, from 1952 to 1954.
On February 27, 1954, Elmer married Ruth Troll. In 1954, Elmer began working with the United States Department of Agriculture and worked as an ASCS (Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service) Agent for Shelby, Delaware, and lastly, Boone Counties, retiring in 1984. After retirement, he worked as a maintenance man for Sacred Heart School and Regency Retirement Center in Boone.
He enjoyed dancing, watching sports on television, playing cards, and having coffee and socializing with friends. Elmer also enjoyed working on small motors and was known as 'Mr. Fix It' by family and friends. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #817 of Boone and the Knight of Columbus Leo Council #814.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Elmer is survived by his wife Ruth of Boone; his daughter, Judy Heimerman of Boone; two sons, Lynn Heimerman and wife, Joan of Harlan, and Dale Heimerman of Manchester; a brother Robert Heimerman and wife, Judy of Harlan; two grandchildren, Trish Kiesel and husband Brent of Avoca and Trent Heimerman and wife, Laura of Harlan; a great granddaughters, Jenny Looker, Jessica (Mathew) McCoy and Lennox Kiesel; three great-great grandchildren, Tevin Looker, Aiden and Elizabeth McCoy, nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
In memory of Elmer, memorials may be directed to the family.
The Schroeder Reimers Memorial Chapel in Boone and the Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan are in charge of the arrangements.
