Margaret E. "Peggy" Hanley, 89, a longtime Red Hook, NY resident, passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at Ten Broeck Commons in Lake Katrine, NY.
Born in Bronxville, NY on April 6, 1929, she was the daughter of the late William and Dorothy (Cronin) O'Brien. Peggy married John "Jack" Hanley on September 24, 1949 at St. Catherine's Church in Pelham, NY. Jack predeceased her on January 8, 2013. Her sister, Dorothy Eggers, and her brother, William J. O'Brien, also predeceased her.
Peggy is survived by her seven children, Kathy Gentili (Bob) of Vacaville, CA, Patricia Hanley of Halifax, MA, John Hanley of Lake Katrine, NY, Mary Ellen Hong (Caru) of Madison, NJ, Michael Hanley (Karen) of Greenville, NC, Meghan Rozmus (Tom) of Wappingers Falls, NY, Barbara Rhynders (Ron) of Red Hook, NY; her grandchildren, Bryan Gentili, Erin Monroe, Christopher Valenti, Michael Valenti, Jennifer Eori, Kate Hanley, Sarah Hanley, Jack Hanley, Morgan Hanley, Kevin Rozmus, Maggie Rozmus and Shannon Rhynders; her great grandchildren, Fiona and Hannah Valenti-Lightfoot, Brady Meichsner, Kaiden Eori, Noah and Brooklyn Monroe, Michael, Ally, La...[more]
n and Olivia Gentili, and Shae Valenti.
Peggy earned her associates degree from Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School in NYC and worked as a secretary at Bard College in Annandale, NY for many years. She was a communicant of St. Christopher's Church in Red Hook, NY, a Northern Dutchess Hospital volunteer, and was a member of Red Hook Golf Club. Peggy enjoyed her bridge club and the Lunch Brunch.
Peggy's gentleness, patience, family devotion, faith, and sense of humor will be greatly missed, as will her stash of chocolate, her Chinese chicken wings, and her love of shopping.
Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Friday, November 30th, 2018 from 4PM to 7PM & Saturday, December 1st, 2018 from 10AM to 11:30AM.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, December 1st, 2018 at St. Christopher's Church, Red Hook, NY. Burial will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Red Hook.
The Hanley family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Ten Broeck Commons. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Peggy's name to the Ten Broeck Center Resident Council, One Commons Dr., Lake Katrine, NY 12449.
