Richard Davis, age 68, of the Silver Ridge Park section of Berkeley Township died on Friday, December 28, 2018 at home. Born in Flushing, NY, he lived in Maplewood before settling in Toms River in 1991.
A US Navy veteran, Mr. Davis was a self employed painting contractor. He enjoyed boating and fishing, and held a USCG Captain's license. He was fluent in sarcasm, and used the phrase "I would rather eat kitty litter" to emphasize how much he didn't want to do something.
A loving husband, father and grandfather completely devoted to his family, he is survived by his wife, Diane; his children, Alycia Stumbers and her husband Christopher of Brick, Kimberley Purnell and her husband Ryan of Toms River, and William Davis and Danielle of Toms River; and his grandchildren, Emily Stumbers and Timothy and Jillian Purnell. He was our rebel.
Cremation was private under the direction of Horizon Funeral and Cremation Services, 1329 Route 37 West, Toms River. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2019 from 2-4 pm, with a memorial service at 3:45pm at the funeral home.
