Katharina Schwarz

Katharina Schwarz, 90, of Waterloo, died Sunday, February 24, at MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center. She was born May 13, 1928 in Stamora Germana, Romania, daughter of Adam and Barbara Kramer Elsasser. She married Wilhelm Schwarz on April 3, 1947 in Vienna, Austria. He died November 18, 2010. Katharina was a cook in a refugee camp in in Austria for eight years before coming to the United States. She was employed with the McGregor's Warehouse and was a sales person and seamtrice for Mabley & Carew, both in Cincinnati, Ohio until her retirement. Survivors include: a son, Alfred "Fred" (Joanne) Schwarz of Waterloo; a granddaughter, Karin (Joel) Mills of Newton and a great granddaughter, Frances Mills of Newton. Preceded in death by: a brother, Michael Elsasser. A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, preceded by two hours of visitation.
