On February 18th, 2019, the physical body of Alan Wea-Ting Lee, beloved grandson, son, loving husband, father, brother and uncle, left the grounds of our earth at the age of 39. Alan was born at California Hospital Medical Center in Los Angeles on September 3rd, 1979 to Song-Lieng and Po-Ping (Chang) Lee. He received his Bachelors in Education from the University of Texas, Austin in 2001 (where he was very proud of his "hook'em horns" slogan and hand signal), and a Masters degree in Education from Pepperdine Graduate School of Education and Psychology in 2003. Alan went on to work at Jack F. Macy Intermediate School in Montebello, CA where he taught life science for 12 years. In 2014, Alan was licensed as Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (NTP) by the Nutritional Therapy Association (NTA). He completed his courses for the NTP program with quarterly trips to the Seattle, WA as he continued to teach and make an impact on the lives of students, parents, and faculty at Macy Intermediate. s he worked at one of the premiere restaurants in wine country Woodinville, Washington, the Barking Frog. It is in Washington where he would also meet his future wife, Dr Elizabeth Barrera, while working as an elementary school director in Bellevue, WA. They married on May 20th, 2017 at their home in Snohomish, WA and gave birth to their daughter Vera Grace-Barrera Lee on October 17th, 2017. Alan was a respected teacher, mentor, colleague, basketball coach, and most loyal friend. His smile and laugh would illuminate the room to cheer up others around him, and he had the biggest heart, with compassion for all creatures. He believed in civil and social rights and often spoke up about injustices of the world around him and challenged everyone to seek their fullest potential in life and do what was right in their "truths." He was a lover of all types of music genres, but especially hip-hop, jazz, reggae, and classical, and was a big believer of all things natural, organic, health-driven, and everything in its purest form. Alan had the sweetest left-stroke on the basketball court, played the saxophone, percussion, and piano for many years and inspired many to find their passion in music and in sports. He played piano daily for his daughter Vera. Alan's legacy will live on in his wife, Elizabeth Lee Barrera, and their children, Akira, Vera, and son due in July 2019. Alan's passing was preceded by his grandfather, Keng-Hsu Lee, father-in-Law, Jess Barrera and beloved dog, Irie. His mother Po-Ping Lee, father Song Lee, brother Jerry Lee will cherish his loving memory forever.
