Tom Veit

Thomas James Veit, 46, of Henderson, CO, formerly of Maquoketa, IA and Winter Park, CO, died on Saturday morning, March 19, 2011. Tom died surrounded by his entire family while in the care of Denver Hospice after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Tom was born on November 24, 1964 in Davenport, IA to Ronald Eugene and Barbara Rose (Lindblad) Veit. He married his high school sweetheart, Lynette Sue Keil, on April 10, 1998 in Denver, CO and April 2011 will mark 30 years of a very blessed life together. Tom lived life to the fullest and will always be remembered for his infectious laugh, one in a million smile and dimples. He faced adversity gracefully and throughout his illness he was an inspiration to many. He wants anyone facing any similar adversity to keep fighting the fight and never give up hope. He was a 1983 graduate of Maquoketa Community High School where he excelled in athletics, particularly track and baseball. played baseball. Tom played center field and was an integral part of the 1985 Junior College World Series team. He then earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Metropolitan State College in Denver and a Master's Degree from New Mexico State at Highlands in Las Vegas, New Mexico. In October of 2010 Tom and Lynette traveled back to Highlands where he was honored with a distinguished alumni recognition award. Prior to receiving his Master's degree, Tom worked for ten years at Winter Park Resort in Colorado and was employed as a Ski Patroller. He enjoyed the friendships he created and the outdoor lifestyle during his ski career. Tom excelled in life as much as he did on the baseball field or track. He was employed by Daiichi-Sankyo Pharmaceuticals in Denver where he diligently worked his way to District Sales Manager. His hard work earned him numerous rewards including trips to Japan and St. Martin BVI among other honors. Tom enjoyed skiing, collecting watches, spending time with his wife, family, friends and their dogs. During Tom's treatment, rest assured he could be found in his convertible, undertaking self-prescribed "air in the hair therapy", pushing the limits of both man and machine. Tom is survived by his wife, Lynette Veit of Henderson, CO; his mother, Barbara Veit of Brighton, CO; sisters Ronelle (Dean) Burmeister of Clinton, IA and Lisa (David) Woznicki of St. Charles, MO; a brother, Steve (Jenny Armstrong and her son, Caleb Kelley) Veit of Henderson, CO; Niece Carrie Jackson and Nephew Kyle Jackson of Clinton, IA; Uncle Richard Lindblad of West Virginia. Tom and Lynette also shared their lives with four Collies. Kingsley, Dempsey, Chapin and Raleigh. Raleigh died on March 24, 2011 and will be side by side with Tom for eternity. He was preceded in death by his Grandparents, George "Jack" and Leota Veit and Cliff and Ruth Lindblad, father, Ronald Veit and a nephew, Tyler Jackson. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to any humane society or Collie Rescue. Please join us for the celebration of Tom's life on Friday, April 8th, 2011 at Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa, IA. Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm and the service will begin at 7:00. Immediately following the service Tom wanted "one last party" in "The Bistro" room at Carson's.
