Donna Lee Lewis, 83, of 2207 Spruce St., Quincy, died Friday (September 2, 2011) at Timber Point Healthcare Center in Camp Point, where she was convalescing after a recent hospital stay. Donna was born September 6, 1927 in Quincy, the third of four daughters of Elmer H. Lampe and Lilly Loos Lampe and grew up at the family home at 930 Monroe Street. Donna graduated from Quincy High School. She earned her registered nursing degree from Barnes Hospital School of Nursing (now Washington University) in St. Louis, Mo. Donna had a long career as a registered nurse, working at Blessing Hospital and the Good Samaritan Home, and she concluded her career at the age of 75 working as the office nurse for Dr. Alex McGinnis. Donna married Ralph A. Lewis on August 9 1950, and raised a family of six children at 2207 Spruce St. Ralph, a longtime English teacher at Quincy High School and announcer for WTAD radio and KHQA-TV, died on September 14, 2007. PTA. She was very devoted to her children and grandchildren. She was an avid bird watcher and was one of a waning cadre of loyal fans of Lawrence Welk. Donna also had a special interest in stamp collecting and in her family genealogy. She is survived by her sister, Margery Vandament of Long Beach, CA; six children, Susan Ladley and her husband Carl of South Lake Tahoe, CA; Robert Lewis and his wife Debra of Kentfield, CA; Debra Cane and her husband Steve of Quincy; Julia Askew and her husband Carl of Quincy; Steven Lewis and his wife Carol of Quincy; and Lynette McAliney of Mountain Home, AR; and 14 grandchildren, Ryan and Matt Lewis of San Francisco, CA; John Lewis of Kentfield, CA; Chrissy and Michael Cane of Quincy, Scott Piner of St. Charles, IL; Amanda and Andrea Piner of Quincy; Carlie Askew of Quincy; Lilly and Jack Lewis of Quincy; and Jessica, John and Kevin McAliney of Mountain Home, AR. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Jeanette Kamper and Harriet Weber; a grand-daughter, Angela Piner; and two sons-in-law, L. Stephen Piner and James McAliney. Services: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 8 at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home in Quincy with the Rev. Larry Wentzel officiating, followed by interment at Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy. Visitation: 4 - 7 pm Wednesday, September 7 at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Memorials: The family suggests that memorials may be made to the First Union Congregational Church, the American Heart Association, the National Kidney Foundation or a charity of the donor's choice.
