Dean Wells Harkness

Dean Wells Harkness, age 89, of 720 Sycamore, Quincy,  formerly of Liberty, IL died Friday (May 13, 2011) at 9:30 am in Sycamore Healthcare Centre. He was born September 28, 1921 in Adams County,  Illinois, the son of Herbert and Lena Wells Harkness. On January 18, 1972, he married Marvilla Pauline Woods Lepper in Central Baptist Church in Quincy.  She preceded him in death May 11, 2007. Mr. Harkness was a member of Akers Chapel and had attended Pleasant Grove Methodist Church as a child.  He farmed all his life in the Liberty area and was a member of the Farm Bureau and the Eagles Lodge. Dean was a quiet, kind man who loved his family, farming and country music. Survivors include his sister, Geraldine Hoffman, Quincy;  3 step children, Cora Sue Lepper, Plainville;   Marian Catherine (Richard) Smith, Quincy;  and Herbert (Melinda) Schwieter, Sciota, IL ;  13 stepgrandchildren, numerous step great grandchildren, a niece Sharon (Bill) Griffith, Port Charlotte, FL; two nephews Lee J.
