Earl G. "Colonel" Speckhart, 91, 2130 Harrison, Quincy, a well known retired Fall Creek Twp. farmer died Friday, June 30, at 1:45 am in Blessing Hospital. He was born May 7, 1909 in Fall Creek Twp, IL, the son of George Frederick and Maria Blumler Speckhart. On August 28, 1931, he married Gladys Wilma Stolte in Springfield, Illinois. She preceded him in death on November 24, 1993. Mr Speckhart farmed in the Fall Creek Township all his life. He was a member of Bluff Hall United Church of Christ and the Bluff Hall Men's Fellowship. He was a life long member of the Farm Bureau and a former member of South Side Boat Club and the Moose. He was an avid bowler, gardener and Payson area sports fan. Survivors include a son, Richard A. Speckhart and his wife Juanita, Quincy; 3 daughters, Mrs. Betty Sprague, Quincy; Linda Burmeier and her husband Carl, Davenport, VA; Vicki Kabrick and her husband Rex, Plainville; 13 grandchildren, Gary Speckhart and his wife Rita, Quincy; Lacinda Mena and her husband Gonzalo, Quincy; Brenda Meyer and her husband Marvin, Liberty, IL; Judy Spratt and her husband Craig, Philadelphia, MO; Julie Dittmer and her husband Tim, Mason, Ohio; Larry Sprague and hi...[more]

He also was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers Walter, Paul and Albert Speckhart, one sister Mildred and one great grandchild Tyler. Funeral Services will be 10 am Monday, July 3, at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, Rev. Carl Burmeier and Rev. Rick Welch officiating. Burial in Bluff Hall Cemetery, Payson, Illinois. The family will receive friends from 4-7 pm Sunday and Monday morning until the time of services at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to Bluff Hall Church, Bluff Hall Cemetery Association or Salvation Army.
