Dorothy Jane Staton, age 89 of Versailles, Illinois, formerly of 2929 Schildt Lane, Quincy, died Monday, October 25, 2010 at 7:00 pm in her home. She was born March 16, 1921 in Elkhorn, Wisconsin the daughter of Cassius Melvin and Harriet Ann Watson Ellsworth. On February 7, 1948 she married William Irvin Staton in Elkhorn, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death on February 19, 2008. She was a 1939 graduate of Elkhorn High School and attended the University of Wisconsin for two years. Dorothy trained to be a pilot in the Women's Army Corps (WAC) near the end of WWII. In the early 1950's, Dorothy and Bill were founding members of St. Gregory's Episcopal Church in Deerfield, Illinois. When they moved to Quincy in 1977 they joined St. John's Episcopal Church and were active in the church. Dorothy enjoyed volunteering her time working in the St. John's Thrift Store and the Tea Room at Blessing Hospital. Dorothy enjoyed flowers and loved tending her garden. Most of all Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family and her grandchildren. Horeb, Wisconsin; and a brother, Donald Ellsworth of Elkhorn, WI. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Joyce Johnson. Services: Friday, October 29, 2010 at 11:00 am in St. Johns Anglican Parish with the Rev. Patrick Smith officiating. Entombment will be in the Quincy Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation: Thursday, October 28, 2010 from 5 to 7 pm at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, and Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 am at St. John's Anglican Parish, 701 Hampshire Street, Quincy.
