Dr. Richard Bristol

Dr. Richard Bristol, age 85, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at Hospice Care Center in Fitchburg. He was born on March 5, 1925 in Michigan to Glenard and Agnes (Caruss) Bristol.   During World War II, he served in the Navy.   Dr. Bristol received his DVM degree from Michigan State University on 1951.   He operated a general practice in Montfort, Wisconsin from 1951 to 1962.   During 1958-1962, he served as a visiting lecturer at University of Wisconsin-Platteville.   In 1962, he traveled to Iowa State University where he remained until 1970 in charge of the clinic for cattle, sheep, and swine.   In 1966, while at Iowa State, Dr. Bristol received his MS degree in Pathology.   1970 brought Dr. Bristol back to Wisconsin to set up general practice in Merrill.   He remained there until 1974 when he became a Professor with the University of Wisconsin Extension/Veterinary Science Department.   He joined the School of Veterinary Medicine in 1981 as a Professor and in 1982 was appointed Associate Dean-Clinical Affairs.   He was also the past President of the Wisconsin Veterinary Medi...[more]

Association in 1977 and served as an instructor for the short course at the University of Wisconsin Madison.   He received the Wisconsin Veterinarian of the year award in 1958, the Iowa-Grant County Award for contributions to education in 1960 and the Cardinal Key from Iowa State University in 1967.   Other accomplishments include Emeritus Professor of Medicine, University of Wisconsin, and chaired the Senior Service committee in Waunakee.   He was also instrumental in the establishment of the First Baptist Church in Waunakee.   Dr. Bristol is survived by his wife:   Barbara of Waunakee; his son, Richard (Kathy); his four daughters:   Heidi Bristol, Melissa (Chris) Molnar, Susan Bristol and Cathy Bristol; five grandchildren:   three great-grandchildren; and three sisters:   Terry, Penny, and Karen.   Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 9, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the Winn-Cress Funeral Home, 5785 Highway Q, Waunakee, WI.   Friends may call at the Winn-Cress Funeral Home on Thursday, July 8, 2010, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.   Friends may also call on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.   Burial will take place at 3:00 p.m. in Montfort, WI.
