Dorothy Jane 'D.J.' Mays, age 84, 836 Spring Lake Dr., Quincy, died, Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at 3:40 p.m. at Blessing Hospital. She was born March 18, 1924 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, the daughter of Edward Church and Dolly Jones Church. On June 20, 1948, she married Leonidas D. 'Lee' Mays, Jr. in Quincy. He preceded her in death on March 29, 1999. Mrs. Mays was a 1942 graduate of Quincy High School and a 1946 graduate of St. Mary Hospital School of Nursing. She had been employed by Moorman Mfg. Co. and then worked as a Registered Nurse at St. Mary Hospital. She was a member of Vermont Street United Methodist Church, Spring Lake Country Club, Adams County Humane Society and a former board member, St. Mary Nurses Alumni, Gardner Museum, The Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County, Quincy Society of Fine Arts, Y.W.C.A. and a former board member, Quincy Preserves, Blessing Foundation and Dr. Richard Eell's House. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and four brothers William, Donald, John R. and Franklin Church and a sister, Annie Mays. Services: Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. Lou Zuck officiating. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation: Friday, October 3, 2008 from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
