Mary Jewell Renard, age 92, of Quincy Senior and Family Resource Center, died Friday, November 28, 2008 at 8:10 pm. She was born July 29, 1916 in Erin, Texas the daughter of Jones Harvel and Ellen Poyner French Barnes. On May 19, 1941 she married Paul Renard in Madison, Illinois. He preceded her in death on October 23, 1974. Mary and Paul raised their three children in Arkansas, as well as in Paxton and Quincy, Illinois where Paul completed his seminary training and where he and Mary served as church planters for beginning Southern Baptist Congregations. Mary never knew a stranger and was a great cook who shared meals with many families and visitors. Her compassion and generosity were acclaimed by all she knew. Her "families" included not only her own children and grandchildren, but generations of other friends and parishioners. One of her last ministries was to serve as the card lady at the Senior and Family Resource Center where she selected and delivered birthday, sympathy, thinking of you and encouragement cards to the residents and staff. l of Quincy; 8 grandchildren: Dale Dixon and wife Mary of Omaha, NE, Ron "Boomer" Renard and fiance' Kris, and Jason Renard and wife Shelley, all of Quincy; Michelle Borroughs and husband Steve, and Melissa Renard, all of Davenport, IA; Lori Johnson and husband Jamie of Marceline, IL; Mark Reinebach and wife Sarah of Old Monroe, MO; Megan Leenerts and husband James of Quincy; 17 great grandchildren; a brother, Stanley Barnes and wife Edna of Granite City, IL; a sister-in-law, Maxine Kendall and husband Harold of Greenville, IL, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, 2 brothers, a special friend, Forrest Lane and her son-in-law Harry Dixon. Services 2:00 pm Tuesday at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Rains officiating. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
