John F. Meyer

John F. Meyer, 81, passed away peacefully on January 26, surrounded by family and loved ones at Blessing Hospital. Born in Aberdeen, South Dakota, John was the oldest son of Lothar Karl and Helen Penny Meyer. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nora Meyer, his brothers Robert, Richard, Albert, and his sister Penny. Lovingly remembered by his wife, Lynn Swanstrom-Meyer, and his three daughters, Susan Shantz (Philip), Ann Meyer-Savignon (Daniel), and Debbie Meyer (Mike Busch). Also cherished by his stepchildren Donnie DeBoer and Eric DeBoer (Jeannie). Grandchildren and step-grandchildren include Aaron, Laura, Madeleine, Nicolas, Bridget, Quinton, Nolan, and Jeffrey Gage. He is also fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. John graduated in 1959 from Concordia College in Seward, Nebraska, and soon discovered his love of teaching. He taught at St. James Lutheran School for eight years and also served as principal at St. Paul's Lutheran School in Kewanee, Illinois. John also had a passion for farming, and developed successful dairy herds both in Toulon, Illinois and on the Moorman Manufacturing Research Farm in Mendon.
