Freddie Mae Jackson (Hearns) was born February 20, 1940 in Collierville, TN from the union of Prince and Zullar Hearns (Davis). She departed this life March 30, 2019. She earned her diploma from Harlem High School in Rockford, IL and went on to earn her Bachelor's degree in Education from Parsons College in Fairfield, IA. While attending these institutions, she was active in various sports. At the age of 17, she was the first recipient selected by the Rockford Register-Republic, a predecessor of the Rockford Register Star, for the "Young Americans program." The national award honored teenagers for bravery and volunteerism. She was recognized for saving three children from a fire in a neighborhood home. Freddie met the late Milton Jackson, Sr. in Kansas City, MO. They were united in marriage by Reverend Mose L. Hicks, of the Israel of God Church, Rockford, IL and remained together for 52 years. She worked over 20 years in the teaching field beginning with the Fairfield Community School District in Iowa and later taught in the Indianapolis Public and Catholic schools. on of teaching as a tutor for Math and English subjects. As a faithful member of the Israel of God's Church, she shared her words of wisdom with her children as well as her grandchildren. Quotes included: "Remember your foundation in Israel", "Make plans for the day", and "Work smarter not harder". Leaving to cherish her memory, children Angela (Melvin) Mellerson, Deacon Milton (Darla) Jackson, Jr., Deacon Terrance (Kellye) Jackson, Sheila Jackson, Deacon Timothy (Marion) Jackson, Reverend Anthony (Charae) Jackson, and Darlene Gilbert; sixteen (16) grandchildren and six (6) great grandchildren; Sister Ella Jones, Mother in-law Georgia Jackson, Sisters in-law Mary Hearns, Thelma (Vicky) Johnson, Marquita Cavole, and Shirley Jackson; Brother in-law Marvin Jackson and Aunts Dorothy Gray and Eugenia Dabner; an abundance of nephews, nieces, and other family members. Freddie Jackson is preceded in death by her husband Milton Jackson, Sr., parents Prince and Zullar Hearns (Davis), brother, Prince Hearns, Jr. In her later years, she found joy in spending the summers with a house full of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Private visitation will be for minsters and immediate family. There will be a public viewing starting at 10:00 am until the time of funeral service on Saturday, April 13 at 11:00 am at Israel of God's Church, 2135 Fox Hill Dr., Indianapolis.
