Floyd Nichols

January 30, 1922, in Great Bend Township, Cottonwood County, Minnesota to the late Willis and Mabel (Wellman) Nichols. He was baptized on April 27, 1943, at the Amo Methodist Church in rural Storden. Floyd received his education in the Storden Public Schools; graduating in the Class of 1942. He stayed at home to help with the farming while his brothers served in the military. On February 12, 1952, Floyd was united in marriage to Dorothea Horkey at the Grace Lutheran Church in Westbrook. They lived in the Lamberton/Storden/Windom area where they farmed; milking Holstein cows and raising corn and soybeans along with two sons and a daughter. In 1978, they had a farm auction and Floyd began to work for Jack Potter. In February of 1983, Floyd and Donna traveled to Santa Cruz, New Mexico. Floyd and Dorothea moved into Windom in 1984. While living in Windom, Floyd was the building maintenance engineer for the Cottonwood County Fairgrounds and also mowed several of his neighbor?s lawns. Dorothea passed away on June 12, 2001. loyd moved to the Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont to be closer to family and on Thursday morning, February 14, 2008, Floyd passed away in Fairmont at the age of 86. Floyd was a longtime member of the Amo Lutheran Church in rural Storden where he was the church janitor. He also was a 4-H leader along with being a member of the Windom Odd Fellows Lodge #108. Floyd?s enjoyments in life included coaching softball in his earlier years, playing cards, children, and most of all, his family who he loved very much. Floyd's dedicated family who mourns his loss includes his three children, Wayne Nichols and his wife, Carol, of Redwood Falls; Donna Perryman of Winnebago; Willis Nichols of Windom; one grandson, Douglas Nichols and his wife, Catherine of Redwood Falls; one brother, Clinton Nichols and his wife, Inez of Windom; and many more relatives to numerous to mention. Floyd is preceded in death by his parents; one infant son, Stanley Nichols; and two brothers, Wilbur, and Jack "Roland" Nichols. Blessed be the memory of Floyd Nichols.
