Robert Glenn Johnson

MADISON - Robert G. Johnson, age 75 of Madison, died on Sept. 7, 2010 at Meriter Hospital surrounded by his loving family.      He was born on May 30, 1935, in Buffalo, N.Y., son of the late Harry C. and Frances E. (Dahlien) Johnson.   His family moved to Duluth, Minn., where he graduated from East High School. He attended North Park University in Chicago, Ill., and later graduated from the University of Minnesota-Duluth, receiving his B.S., and then M.S. in 1964.   He was a high school teacher in Minneapolis, Minn., and an administrator with the Wisconsin Technical College System Board, Madison.    Bob married Patricia Drumm on Aug. 20, 1959. He later married Betty H. Horner on May 26, 1983.   He is survived by his daughters, Lynelle (Mark) Palma of Fitchburg and Kathleen Diaz of River Grove, Ill.; son Scott (Jill) of Lakeville, Minn.; and step-sons, Jeffery Horner of Minneapolis, and Frank (Dana) Horner of Windsor. Keith A. Johnson of Duluth, Minn.; and ten grandchildren, Jaime, Dana and Erik Palma, Alyssa and Olyvia Diaz, and Elle, Lauren and Maxwell Johnson, Elizabeth and Kathryn Horner; and his special friend and companion, Carolyn White.    He was preceded in death by his parents; mother of his children, Patricia Griesbach; his wife, Betty; and his brother, Donald.    Bob is remembered as a loving husband, caring father and grandfather, and a very active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Madison, and in his and community in a variety of volunteer initiatives, which include Madison West Kiwanis, SCORE counselor, docent at Monona Terrace, member of the Lung Cancer Task Force of the UW Carbone Cancer Center, and Meals on Wheels delivery. Bob received the Madison Rotary Club Community Service Award in 2007.    A celebration of Bob's life will be conducted on Sunday Sept. 12, 2010, 2:00 pm, at COVENANT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 326 S. Segoe Rd., Madison.   Visitation will be on Saturday, September 11, 2010, from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison.    Bob's family wishes to thank the staff at Meriter Hospital Intensive Care Unit for their compassionate care.    Memorials can be given to Covenant Presbyterian Church, Madison; Attic Angel Association, Madison; or the UW Carbone Cancer Center for lung cancer research.
