Betty was born to parents, Dan and Elsie (Krueger) Lange in Montpelier, Iowa, moving to Letts, Iowa early in life. She graduated from Letts Public High School in 1954 and went straight to Washington, DC to work for the FBI for a year. She attended Muscatine Community College and graduated from Marycrest College in Davenport, Iowa. She taught Junior High at Wilton Public Schools from 1957-1970 and then taught at Louisa-Muscatine Schools from 1971-1998. She was honored for her years of work with "at risk" students at Louisa-Muscatine. Betty married Jim Houseman, love of her life, on December 30, 1974. She was a member of TTT Chapter T and Letts United Methodist Church.
Betty is survived by her husband. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Carl Lange; brother-in-law, Arthur Bailey; sister-in-law, Anita Lange and great-nephew, Sam (Jackie) Langstaff.
