Elonzo Dann, 86, a Davie, FL resident and retired longtime member of the New York Theatrical Wardrobe Union Local 764, died in a rehabilitation center in Plantation, Fl on May 25, 2019. Born at home in Miami, FL in March 1933, he was educated at private schools in Norfolk, VA and Baltimore, MD. Lon resided at various times in Rochester, NY, Hoboken, NJ and Baltimore, MD. But it was in New York City that he made his home and career from the 1950s to the 1990s, first as a department store window display artist, then successively as a dancer, circus clown, and - finally - wardrobe master for theatrical productions, notably working on producer Alexander H. Cohen's shows. An artist and art lover from childhood, Lon painted and also collected the works of other painters, and had an impressive art history library. Lon loved puerile humor, poetry and animals, and delighted in observing the behavior of an anhinga bird that frequented a lake behind his house in Davie. He leaves devoted friends and neighbors. His parents and his sister preceded him in death.[more]
