Cheryl Haley was born in Borger, Texas, December 1, l946. Cheryl came into the loving lives of her parents, Ernest "Dutch" and Loretta Preston. Cheryl attended grade school and graduated from high school in 1965 in Brownfield, Texas.Cheryl was first employed as a telephone operator in Brownfield and later in Del Rio, Texas. In l977 life began and home was made in Austin, Texas. Here she reared her two sons and Austin was home for the remainder of her life.Cheryl was employed as an electrician, technician with AMD and worked seasonal with the IRS. For the most part, Cheryl worked in a medical environment. She worked for two hospitals, Seton and Brackenridge. For health reasons, Cheryl retired in mid '02. Her last job prior to retirement was with PPD. For several years she enjoyed her position as secretary-analyst pharmaceutical development with the Dental Division. Cheryl came home to pursue her passions; membership in a bird club, traveling to pursue new adventures, and most of all her love of quilting fulfilled her ploy to be creative.Cheryl was diagnosed with a terminal illness in '02. declared, "I don't have time to be sick. I have places to go and things to do." Triumphantly she did just that. After a lengthy stay at South Austin Medical Center our beloved was taken from us on October 10th. Family and friends mourn her passing as they release her to be with Our Lord.Cheryl was preceded in death by her father, Ernest Preston. She is survived by Ray Haley, of Austin, her husband of seventeen years; sons, Chris and J.P. Kobbe of Austin; mother, Loretta Preston of Brownfield, TX; sister, Peggy Shrimpton of Brownfield; sister, Darla Phillips Taos, New Mexico and brother, David Preston of Amarillo, TX; aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and a very special friend and quilting-mate, Cheryl calls sister, Linda Miller of Seymour, MissouriA memorial service will be held at Harrell Funeral Home Chapel, 4435 Frontier Trail, Austin, TX, Thursday, October 23rd, 2:00 p.m. 4435 Frontier Trail Austin, TX 78745 512-443-1366
