Lois Evelyn Miller RanneyLois Evelyn Miller Ranney, a loving mother; grandmother; great, greatgrandmother and great, great aunt died January 20, 2008 at home surrounded with love.She was born January 15, 1912, to Jennie H. and Clarence M. Miller in Cass County, Iowa. She grew up in Adams County, Iowa where she lived until attending Red Oak high school. She graduated as valedictorian then attended college in Red Oak and State Teachers College in Cedar Falls until she began teaching in rural schools back in her home county.Lois met her future husband, Roger L. Ranney, in her last semester at Cedar Falls. They were married Christmas Day, 1934. They lived in Waterloo and Des Moines until 1941 when they moved to Austin with their first child, Richard Larry. They lived in Rosedale in North Austin and were members of University Methodist Church, where Lois taught Sunday school.Her last work was with the Texas Railroad Commission for 13 years until quitting to move with Roger to Dallas when he went there to assist in setting up the regional Head Start program. member.Lois was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Roger L. Ranney; her two sons, Richard Larry and Layne Allen; and her two brothers, Charles Miller and wife Irma and Douglas Miller and wife Virginia. She is survived by her daughter Linda Ranney Hendry; son-in-law Joe "Sonny Boy" Hendry; daughters-in-law Jean Ranney and Alvina Ranney and family; grandchildren, Lynn Ranney, Denise Wertz, Lisa Ranney and Karen Rhodes, Donette Condra and husband Justin, all of Texas; aunt Virginia Spiker of Iowa; nieces Mary Jackson and family and Diane Miller of Lincoln,Nebraska and several cousins. 'Lois had a very wise and caring way that encouraged her family and friends to confide in her. She was a great listener and would only give advice when asked. She was very accepting of others and could find a kind word in even the most difficult situations. She lived life to its fullest and her kind heart and generous spirit were an inspiration to all who knew her. Her wisdom and kindness have left footprints on many hearts.The family offers appreciation to her devoted caregivers Linda Okpara, Sandy Scutt, Janet Camron, Nancy Guillet, and Betty White who gave her countless hours of hope and happiness. A special thanks to Dr. Azim Shekarchi and nurse, Fran Lieht and to Robinson Creek Hospice for their kind care and responsiveness to her needs.The family will receive visitors on Friday, January 25, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m., at Harrell Funeral Home, Austin, TX. Services will be held, Saturday, January 26, 2008 at 10:00 a.m., with burial to follow at Austin Memorial Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Berkeley United Methodist Church or Susan G.
