Anna Mae Hirner Walker was born north of Wesley, Iowa, October 23, 1928, the daughter of George and Ann (Willger) Hirner. At the age of five her parents moved to the family farm 1.5 miles west of Wesley. Anna received her education at St. Joseph's Parochial School and later graduated from the Wesley High School. After her schooling she worked for the late Dr. L.L. Pfeffer, the Wesley Advertiser and Printing Services and later the Britt News Tribune. On June 26, 1969, Anna Mae was united in marriage to James Walker in Wesley. After their marriage they continued to live in Wesley. Jim died May 14, 1992. Anna Mae loved to dance, play golf, travel, play cards and make trips to the casino. She also enjoyed cooking, working in the yard and loved her two cats, Toby and Izzie. She was an active member of St. Joseph Parish and Guild, holding many offices and sang in the church choir for 65 years. Anna Mae was a past member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the American Legion Auxiliary. Anna Mae died Thursday, June 20, 2019, at the Algona Manor Care Center in Algona, Iowa. Lukasavige of Hot Springs Village, AR; great-nephew, Christopher and April Dubbe of Foristell, MO; great-niece, Megan and Ryan Jackson of Spring, TX; and seven great-great-nieces and nephews along with several cousins in Algona, Missiouri, Illinois, Texas and Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Ann Hirner; husband, Jim Walker; brothers, Raymond and Lyle; sister, Lucy and sister-in-law, Charlene Hirner.
