Delmar Decker, 78 of Glenwood, IA, formerly of Silver City, IA, passed away at his home Friday morning, July 5, 2019. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at the Loess Hills Funeral Home in Glenwood. Following the service, military honors at the funeral home, will be provided by the Gordon May Legion Post 439 of Silver City. Visitation will be on Monday, July 8, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at the Omaha National Cemetery. Memorials: Directed to the family Delmar Earl Decker was born on December 5, 1940 in Missouri Valley, Iowa, the son of Charles and Vera (Little) Decker. He grew up in the Little Sioux and Silver City, Iowa areas. Delmar was united in marriage to Bonnie Menschel on October 3, 1959. They were blessed with two children, Chuck and Joy. Delmar was drafted into the United States Army on September 26, 1966 but decided to enlist. He received his basic training at Fort Bliss, Texas, then onto Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri for AIT training. Delmar was sent to Germany for two years. returned to the Midwest where he was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas for six years until his honorable discharge following eight years of service. Delmar spent most of his life as an over-the-road truck driver and worked on several farms. His greatest joy were his grandchildren, Abbi and Mavrick Decker, Samantha Cundall and Austin Pruett. Delmar passed away at his home, surround by his loving family, on July 5, 2019, at the age of 78 years and 7 months. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister Charlotte Decker. Delmar is survived by his beloved wife of almost 60 years, Bonnie of Glenwood; son Chuck (Jennifer) of Glenwood; daughter Joy (Rellim) of Glenwood; grandchildren, twins, Abbi Decker of Omaha, NE, and Mavrick Decker of Ames, IA, Samantha Cundall of Glenwood and step grandson Austin Pruett; brother Randy Mills and wife Sharon of De Soto, IA; sister Gayle Spetman and husband Dale of Council Bluffs, IA; sisters-in-law, Kathy Hatcher and Sharon Menschel; many other relatives; and a host of special friends.
