David John Wilson
MADISON, WI -- David John Wilson, age 82, died on January 5, 2009. He was a resident of Madison, Wisconsin. He was born in Hollywood, Florida on January 16, 1926, the son of Buford and Mayme (Janney) Wilson. Dave graduated from Beloit (Wisconsin) High School in 1944, served in the U. S. Army as a combat engineer during World War II, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1950. He was a mechanical engineer, and his work included positions with Gisholt Machine Company in Madison from 1950 to 1965, Falk Corporation in Milwaukee from 1969 to 1976, and Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation in Stratford, Connecticut from 1983 until he retired in 1991. Dave was joined in marriage with Jean Elizabeth Goodell on June 27, 1953 at the Olivet Congregational Church (UCC) in Columbus, Wisconsin. Dave was a member of Lake Edge United Church of Christ in Madison. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, carpentry, bird-watching, gardening and being a father and a grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; his father, Buford; his mother, Mayme; a sister, Florence McCauley; two brothers, Thomas Wilson and Rodney Wilson; and a brother-in-law, Benjamin Shaw. A visitation will be held Friday, January 9, 2009, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, WI. In addition, a visitation will be held Saturday, January 10, 2009, at LAKE EDGE UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 4200 Buckeye Road in Madison, WI, beginning at 9:30 a.m. followed by the funeral service 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Paul Shupe will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lake Edge United Church of Christ Scholarship Fund
