Phyllis Marie DeVries, 66, of Dumont, Iowa, passed away April 20, 2011, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. She was born July 26, 1944, in Chariton, Iowa, to Daniel and Lorene (Putz) Steele. Phyllis graduated from Chariton High School. She was united in marriage to Gary DeVries on August 16, 1975, in Whitehouse, Texas. Phyllis was primarily a homemaker but has worked at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids and the Presbyterian Village in Ackley. She attended meetings at the Hitesville Gospel Hall, rural Aplington, Iowa. On April 5, 1977, she trusted Christ as her personal Savior while sitting at the kitchen table on the farm north of Aplington.
Phyllis enjoyed crocheting, watching and feeding hummingbirds. She loved her family, especially her granddaughters.
