Marjorie Mae Durand

Marjorie Mae Durand, 94, of Dumont, Iowa, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2019, at the Dumont Wellness Center. She was born on February 11, 1925, in Dumont, to Ebel and Dorothy (Bents) Ubben. Marjorie graduated from Dumont High School. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Wartburg. Marjorie married Merle O. Nelsen; he preceded her in death. She then married Russell Durand; he also preceded her in death. Marjorie taught at a country school south of Dumont, in Hansell and at Southside in Hampton. She was a former member of the Dumont Reformed Church and was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church in Allison. Marjorie volunteered for the food bank and was active with the church lady's aide. Marjorie enjoyed canning, cooking, gardening, playing solitaire, and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes. She loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren. Marjorie was special to many people and was known to everyone as grandma Marj. She will be missed by many.
