Carmela "Toni" (Leo) Casber

Carmela, 78, passed away October 17, 2019.  Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, at Tonini Funeral Home with the Rosary recited at 7.  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at St. Theresa's Catholic Church with interment at 12:30 p.m. at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery.  A reception will be held at the church following interment.

 

Carmela, daughter of Thomas and Virginia (Alessio) Leo, was born August 10, 1941 in Des Moines, Iowa.  Carmela was in the first graduating class of 1955 from Saint Theresa's Catholic Grade School, and went on to graduate from St. Joseph Academy in 1959.  She continued her education at DMACC/Area 11 receiving her Associate's Degree in Accounting.  After several years of hard work in various jobs, she retired from the State of Iowa in 2010.

 

On May 15, 1976 she married Robert 'Bob' Casber, they owned a Texaco Gas Station and made their home in Des Moines until 1992 when they built a home and moved to the country just outside of Linden, Iowa.  Carmela was a member of All Saints Catholic Church and Rosary Society in Stuart, Iowa wher...[more]

a where she enjoyed being a Eucharistic Minister.  Also, a member of the Redfield American Legion Auxiliary.  In 2007, they moved to Waukee, Iowa where she was Vice President and Treasurer for the Waukee American Legion Auxiliary.  She was also a member of the Italian American Cultural Center of Iowa.

 

Carmela was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Thomas J. Leo and sister-in-law, Kathy Leo.  She was previously married to James Dougherty who is now deceased.

 

Carmela is lovingly remembered by her husband, Bob; their children: Michelle (Scott) Morlan, Scott (Susan) Casber, Vanda (Robert) Mead, and Christopher (Kelli) Dougherty; six grandchildren: Chole (Kera) Casber, Adam Haselhun, Paige (Logan) Wickam, Nina Morlan, Seth Morlan, and Wesley Mead; one great-grandchild, Raven Wickam; and two nephews, Mark (Angela) Leo and Anthony Leo.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in her name.
