It is with great sadness that the family of Ricky Andrew Hext announces his passing on October 18, 2019, at the age of 70. Rick will be lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend, LuAnn Matthews, his children Drew (Angie) Hext, Jenna Hext, Jaye Hext, and his step-daughter Rachel (Jason) Reynolds. Rick will be fondly missed by his beloved grandchildren Noah, Ben, Betsy, and Jaxon who lovingly called him "Opa". He also will be missed by his brother, John (Janet) Hext; sister Carole (Ruben) Bohnert; sister-in-law Kay Matthews; his former spouse and mother to his children Jeanne Hext; and his nieces and nephews. Rick was predeceased by his parents, J.D. and Dorothy Hext; his brother Robert Hext; and his niece Sharon Bohnert. Born April 7, 1949 in Fredericksburg, Texas, Rick enjoyed an idyllic up-bringing with many happy memories of his family and small-town life. He attended St. Mary's Catholic Church and school where he met his lifelong best friends, Pat Kunz and Tony Klein. ersity and Sam Houston State University. He pursued and established a successful career in information technology with the State of Texas and the City of Austin. Rick was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working on his family's ranch. He enjoyed traveling and spending his days with LuAnn, his children, and his grandchildren, of whom he was so very proud. Rick will be remembered for his generous and kind-hearted nature, his ability to make everyone laugh, and most importantly, for being the best husband, brother, father and "Opa" to his family. A Memorial Service will be held at Harrell Funeral Chapel of Dripping Springs, 100 Heritage Dr. at Hwy. 290, Austin, 78737 on Saturday, October 26, 2019. Family and friends will begin gathering a 3:00 p.m. with service at 4:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
