Vincent M. Schmit Vincent Schmit, age 91 years, formerly of Fredonia, died Monday, May 31, 2010 at Harbor Club in Port Washington.  He was born October 18, 1918 in Fredonia, son of Joseph and Barbara Lauters Schmit.  On April 14, 1941, he married Mildred Schreiner at St. Rose of Lima Church in Fredonia.  Vincent served in the US Army during WW II. After returning from the war, Vincent worked for his father at Schmit Auto and Supply in Fredonia.  He purchased the business in the mid 1950’s and operated it until 1970.  The  original Schmit Brothers Auto was started by his father Joseph and his uncle Mike Schmit in 1912. The brothers separated in 1931. Joseph started Schmit Auto and Supply in Fredonia, continuing to sell cars, tractors, implements, hardware and household appliances.  Vincent was a member of Holy Rosary Parish, Warren Kane American Legion Post #410, Catholic Order of Foresters and served on the Board of Directors of the former State Bank of Fredonia for many years. nd Harold (Nancy) Schmit of Peach Tree City, GA, 16 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and his sister Marie Mueller of Whitefish Bay.  He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.  A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, June 5, 11 AM at Holy Rosary Parish, St. Rose Chapel in Fredonia with Father James Ernster officiating.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery.  Visitation at the CHURCH Saturday from 9-11 AM.  Memorials to Stars and Stripes Honors Flight appreciated.  The Eernisse Funeral Home, Port Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.
