Laverne Schroeder passed away peacefully at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny IA on December 20th at the age of 86. Laverne was born on April 14,1933 in Treynor IA to the late Emil and Emma Schroeder.
Laverne had a deep love for Iowa and his country. He was a 1952 graduate of Treynor High School and a Korean War Veteran from 1953-55. He completed a three-year agriculture and record-keeping course under the GI Bill. He then spent 20 years (ten terms) serving as a Republican State Representative. During that time he also farmed livestock and row crop. He continued his love of politics by lobbying until he was 80 for multiple causes including NRA, Iowa Association of Police and Peace Officers, Association of Horse Breeders, Iowa Sportsman's Association, Farm Dealers, American Legion and Loess Hill.
In addition, Laverne gave his time and talents supporting numerous organizations including Farm Bureau, Pottawattamie County Cattle Feeders Association, National Livestock Feeders Association, Knights of Columbus and American Legion where he was awarded for his 60 years of dedication. He is survived by his children Vicki Goos (Greg), Rita Schroeder (Leslie Atkinson), Jean Schroeder (Donn Seidholz), Nancy Vacanti (Paul) and Sandra Schroeder. He is also survived by his sister Lorraine Christensen, 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
