Orrin Cunningham, 92, passed away at the Franklin General Hospital on Tuesday, December 24, 2019. Orrin "Dud" Curtis Cunningham was born to Dudley and Sophia Cunningham on March 13, 1927, in Heron Lake, MN. Orrin lived in Heron Lake until joining the Army in 1945 where he was assigned the duty of a government meat inspector. While he was working as a meat inspector in Waterloo, IA he met his future wife, Dee Harms. They were married in September of 1947. Orrin left the Army in 1948. They started farming soon after. In addition to farming, Orrin also owned a trucking company. He stayed busy hauling grain and livestock with his trucks. He especially loved his trips hauling cattle from Montana, Wyoming and the Dakotas. Orrin and Dee retired in 1994 and moved to town. They traveled for a few years after their retirement. They never had a "plan", when the whim would strike them, they'd just go. Most of the time they headed west to explore the places that Orrin had loved so much when he hauled cattle. on so he could "coach" them. For many years he also enjoyed tractor pulling with his antique tractor that he restored. The last several years he loved to have a beer with his buddies on Friday or Saturday night. Orrin is survived by his son, Bob, of Hansell, IA, daughter, Jill Ray (Roger) of Olathe, KS, and daughter, Renae of White Bear Lake, MN, along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was also close to many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings (Thurlow, Merrit and Larry), his wife, Dee and son, Justin. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the Dumont American Legion in memory of Orrin.
