Mary L. Fernandez

Mary L. (Hohenstein) Fernandez, 87, of Forrest Hills Queens, NY, formerly of Jackson, NE passed away at her residence in January, 2011. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at the Ponca Cemetery in Ponca, NE with Pastor Joe Zimmerman of Christ the King Community Church officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the graveside service on Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at the Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca, NE. Mary was born in rural Hubbard, NE on August 15, 1923, the daughter of William and Amelia (Anderson) Hohenstein. She grew up in the Hubbard area until moving to Jackson, where she graduated from Jackson High School. She moved to San Antonio, TX and joined the US Navy WAVES. She then moved to Seattle, before settling in New York. Mary married Albert Fernandez in Queens, NY. The couple owned and operated a restaurant in New York and raised two daughters. Mary enjoyed dogs and took them to dog shows all over the world. She also enjoyed visiting relatives in Nebraska.
