Chuck was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, he attended the University of Michigan (Class of 1974), was the assistant sports editor of the Michigan Daily and spent 2 ½ years a student assistant in the U-M sports information department. He arrived in Texas in 1976 to begin his journalistic career as sports editor/columnist of the Conroe Daily Courier in suburban Houston and worked for newspapers in the Texas Gulf Coast, Texas Hill Country and suburban Dallas area. He owned and operated several small community newspapers (Nixon News, Stockdale Star) in South Texas for almost 14 years. Health issues forced his retirement, but was frequent contributor of opinion columns for the Plano Star Courier, Dallas Morning News, Romeo Times, and MGoTalk.com. For the last 13 years, he was actively involved in the annual North Texas Irish Festival. He served as the Editor in chief of the Southwest Celtic Music Association Ceili newsletter. In 1985, he was named Citizen of the Year by the Nixon Area Chamber of Commerce. Bloom served as a city councilman and president of the chamber of commerce in Nixon, a member of the Lancaster Charter Review and Downtown Revitalization Commissions, president of two Texas regional press associations, director of Texas Press Association and president of the Lancaster Lions Club Charles Bloom Photo 2
