William Doak Witherspoon, age 59 (but living an equivalent of 100 years), peacefully passed away and took his place with the angels on September 1, 2015 at his home after an almost 2-year battle with cancer. Doak was born on January 22, 1956 in San Angelo, Texas to Don and Dorris Witherspoon. His incredible passion for sports began early in life, participating in football, baseball and track. He graduated from Snyder High School in 1974 and Texas Tech University in 1978. During his time at Tech, he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. never willing to give up in his fight against cancer and was determined to live life to its fullest. He attacked his illness with the same passion he demonstrated in everything else he did. He always made it a point to have an optimistic attitude even when times became incredibly tough. During his final days, he was a model of strong and sheer determination as he continued to battle this dreadful disease. It is difficult to imagine he won't be here for the next concert, movie night or football season. While he may have lost his battle with cancer, he won in the game of life. Doak is survived by his wife Lydia, his daughter Lauren and her husband Tim, his brother Tracy and his sister D'Ann. He was preceded in death by his parents Don and Dorris and his brother Dane.  As the great coach Vince Lombardi once said...."We didn't lose the game, we just ran out of time." A celebration of Doak's life will be held at Prestonwood Baptist Church located at 6901 W. Park Blvd. Plano, TX 75093 at 2:00 P.M. on September 8, 2015. Please, direct any questions regarding services to Prestonwood Baptist Church and questions regarding flowers to Distinctive Life Cremations and Funerals.
