Charles Carlton Spurlock

Charles Carlton Spurlock, 89, passed away on March 5th, 2017 at his home in Burkburnett, Texas. He was born on December 21st, 1927 in Greenville, Texas to Clarence Carlton Spurlock and Bessie Ann Weathers Spurlock. Charles grew up in Greenville, Texas. He joined the United States Air Force at 17 years old. After World War II, Charles traveled to Japan and met the love of his life, Shizuko Sato Sasaki. Charles Spurlock married Michi (Shizuko) on March 18th, 1952 in the American Embassy in Japan. They were happily married for 65 years. He enjoyed country music, reading science fiction, watching documentaries, and following the NASA Space Program. He was a self made upholster during and following his retirement from the military. He is survived by his granddaughters, Shannon Sensi and her husband, Andy; Allyson Blackney, Parker Halverson, Savannah Spurlock, Rebecca Spurlock, Carlie Spurlock, Tabatha Murphy, Tamara Aguila and her husband, Gerardo; January Turner and her husband, Justin; and Strawberry Simmons and her husband,  Jeff. He is survived by his grandsons, Pierce Halverson and his wife, Emily; Perry Halverson and his wife, Kyla; Pryce Halverson, and Jarrett Spurlock. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and other members of his extended family. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, C.C. Spurlock and Bessie Ann Weathers Spurlock; his brother, Joe Eddy Spurlock; and his sister, Peggy Thomas. A funeral service will be held at Dallas Fort-Worth National Cemetery located at 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211 at 2:15 pm on March 9th, 2017. The family will be greeting friends and relatives at an open reception beginning at 3:30 pm at Distinctive Life Cremations and Funerals located at 970 North Coit Road, 3095A, Richardson, Texas 75080.
