Gerald (Jerry) Katz

Gerald Lee Katz (Jerry) was born in Memphis, Tennessee June 5, 1929 and passed away peacefully in Houston on January 31, 2016. Jerry was predeceased by his parents, Irma Levy Katz and Hans C. Katz, and brother Ronald Levy Katz. His early childhood friends and family knew him as Jerry a name that followed him all of his life. He attended MacGregor Elementary School, Johnston Jr. High and San Jacinto High School. He attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA where he graduated with honors receiving a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and a B.A. in Business. While at LSU he met his cherished wife, Doris (Ostrow) Katz, where they spent happy years enjoying college life, graduating together and marrying in June 1950. He began his business career as a chemist for Imperial Sugar in Sugarland, later being named industrial sales manager for liquid sugars, a process that he developed and for which he acquired major commercial customers. In 1960, he found that his major interest involved Wall Street and the financial world. pride in his business and in the relationships he built with his colleagues and clients. He was named one of the top stockbrokers in his company and in Houston. He was an avid golfer and tennis player, founding member of The University Club, member of Westwood and La Costa Country Clubs, and board member and member of Congregation Beth Israel. He enjoyed spending time at their second home in La Costa, California shared with his family and his many friends. Summers were so happy for Jerry, especially when his grandchildren came to visit. He is survived by his wife Doris, daughter Susan Katz Weil and husband, Steve; daughter Cindy Katz Fox and husband, Les; and by his grandchildren; Andy Weil, Greg Weil, Lindsey Fox, Lauren Fox Sancton and husband Marc. Our family would like to thank the staff at Belmont Village for their loving care and attention to Jerry over the past year making his time spent there happy and fulfilling. Funeral services will be held in the chapel at Congregation Beth Israel 5600 N.
