Mr. Robert Eldon Hardy, 74, of North Liberty and formerly New London, Ia and California died Friday, June 3, 2011 at Mercy Hospitals in Iowa City.  He was born February 24, 1937 in Worthington, In. the son of Eldon L. Hardy and Annabelle Nicol Hardy.  In 1957 at Burlington, IA he married Beverly Strack who preceded him in death in 1982.  He then married Diana Wick in New London on July 17, 1994. He was a 1955 graduate of Burlington High School in Burlington, Ia , Pasadena City College and California State University  in Los Angeles. He was in the National Guard, a member of the New London Christian Church and the Genesis Church in North Liberty.  When living in New London he was a member of the New London City Council.  He was founder and owner of Lightway Industries in New London and California for 22 years, retiring in 2002.  He loved to fish and pitch horseshoes and was a "Iowa Elder State Horseshoe Pitching Champion". on, two step-daughters; Janet (Rande) Stauffer of Washington, IA, and Sara Wick of Alexandria, VA., three stepsons, Steve (Diane) Wick of Ft. Madison, Jeff (Martha) Wick of Fairfield, IA and Rob (Beth) Wick of Iowa City, IA.  12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; one sister, Judith Ann (Dub) Snelson of Kensett, AR and one brother, Richard (Linda) Hardy of Macomb, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife. Funeral services for Mr. Hardy will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, at the New London Christian Church.  Pastor Rod Cooper will officiate.  Following the services Mr. Hardy will be cremated with his cremains being interred in the Dallas City Cemetery.  Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the church with the family receiving friends one hour before the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the New London Christian Church and the Genesis Church in North Liberty.  Elliott Chapel, New London is in charge of arrangements.
