Obituary of Mary Jo Whalen GREECE - January 25, 2020. Mary Jo is predeceased by her parents, Richard & Rita Whalen. She is survived by her 2 sisters, Margaret Whalen & Maureen Whalen; 3 brothers, Thomas (Kathleen) Whalen, Mark Whalen & Louis Whalen; nieces & nephews, Heather (Thomas, Jr.) Appenheimer, Eric (Jennifer) Whalen, Monica Whalen, Fiona Whalen & Owen Whalen; special niece who was more like a daughter, Amanda (fiance, Max Dunn) Whalen; great-nephew, Thomas Appenheimer, III & Great-niece, Jacqueline Appenheimer; beloved Cocker Spaniel, Darby. Mary Jo was a graduate of Nazareth Academy & Nazareth College. She retired from the Rochester City School District in 2002 after teaching first grade for 32 years at Virgil I. Grissom School #7. She was a former President of the Friends of Greece Public Library, a 16 year volunteer at Journey Home Hospice and a weekly volunteer at the Aquinas Institiute. Mary Jo's life story will be shared during her visitation, (Day & Times Are correct here. The D&C version that ran today was incorrect) Wednesday, January 29th, 3-7 PM, 1411 Vintage Lane (Between 390 & Long Pond Rd.).
