Lucille R. Baxter, 77 of Sioux City, Iowa passed away following a long courageous battle with cancer on Friday, May 02, 2008. She was surrounded by her family. Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, May 06, 2008 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sioux City, Iowa with Father Dan Guenther officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa. Lucille was born on September 22, 1930 in South Sioux City, Nebraska, the daughter of Frederick B. and Josephine E. (Cole) Owings. She attended South Sioux City Public School. Lucille married Burdette Baxter on January 18, 1964 in Sioux City, Iowa. The couple owned and operated Baxter's Cafe in Sioux City. Lucille worked for a number of years at Zenith and Home Health Care, and worked at Bush Cleaners for seventeen years. Burdette passed away March 08, 2000. Lucille was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sioux City. She enjoyed shopping and spending time with her children and grandchildren, and her dog, Angel. wife, Mary Baxter of Lincoln, Nebraska; three sisters, Margaret and her husband Mike Martin of South Sioux City, Nebraska, Donna and her husband Dennis Dvorak and Darlene and her husband Lyle (Ernie) Davis, all of Sioux City, Iowa; one brother, Fred and his wife Leota Goreham of South Sioux City, Nebraska; one sister-in-law, Kathy Rakes of Mandan, North Dakota; eight grandchildren, Mary Baxter, Danny Baxter, Sarah and her husband Giovanni Linares, Rachel Baxter, Josephine, Zoe, Moira and Owen Baxter; one great-granddaughter, Annabelle Rose Linares and several nieces and nephews. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Virgil Rakes and brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Betty Treft. Honorary casket bearers were Lyle (Ernie) Davis and Dick Warren. Casket bearers were Dennis Dvorak, Elvis Shanks, Danny Baxter, Burt Twiford, Giovanni Linares and Mike McGrory.
