Norman L. Maas

Norman L. Maas Resident of St. Clair shores, formerly of Detroit and Norfolk, VA; died January 13, 2019 at the Age of 70. Born January 22, 1948 to Rudy H. and Ruth (George) Maas in Detroit, Michigan. He graduated from Wayne State University with a Masters in Library Science and began his career at the Detroit Public Library, where he coordinated the librarys community information and referral service called TIP. As TIP coordinator, he published numerous reports and articles pertaining to information and referral. He went on to become the library director for the Public Libraries of Saginaw, Michigan, the library director of the Metropolitan Library System in Oklahoma, and ended his career in 2013 as the library Director for the Norfolk Public Library. During his time at the Norfolk Public Library, he oversaw the installation of KidZones and over 25 computers in all of their libraries as well as the renovation and expansion of the Park Place Branch Library and the opening of the Mary D. Pretlow Anchor Branch Library. Woodhouse; children, Jonathon Maas and Allison Maas; sisters, Linda Hackman (Gary) and Laura Bebee (Ray); Brother-in-law John Woodhouse (Gloria), and sister-in-law Jane Zamora. Visitation will take place on Thursday, January 17, 2019 from 3:00-8:00pm and on Friday, January 18, 2019 from 10:00am until the time of the funeral service, 11:00am, at Chas. Verheyden, Inc., 16300 Mack Ave, Grosse Pointe Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Angela Hospice or the Detroit Public Library Friends Foundation, Inc.
