In Loving Memory Maria Antonia Gutierrez Maria Antonia (Toña) Gutierrez, age 71 of Weslaco passed away on Friday, January 31st. She was born January 25, 1949 in Valle Hermoso, Tamaulipas to Antonia Rodriguez Villafaña and Jose Gutierrez Muñoz. Maria Antonia was a seamstress for many years and lovingly made clothes for her family and friends. She loved learning and took English classes whenever she could despite working full-time and raising three children. Originally from Mexico, Maria Antonia loved this country she called home for more than 50 years, realizing her dream of becoming a citizen on August 30, 2018. Maria Antonia was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Maria del Carmen Gutierrez, Cecilia Gutierrez and Bertha Gutierrez, brothers Benito Gutierrez, Delfino Gutierrez, and Reyes Gutierrez, and her son Salvador Avila. She is survived by her children Adolfo Avila, Jr. (wife Manuela Herrera), Sandra Avila Ramirez (husband George L. She also loved playing loteria and bingo scratch-off tickets almost as much as she loved listening to music, singing, and praying her rosary. Mom couldn't wait to get better so she could start going to church with her family again. She cherished her time with her children and grandchildren, and never stopped worrying about them no matter their age. She flew for the first time the day she became a citizen, and planned on taking yearly trips to Forida to see beloved family. Visitation from 5:00 to 9:00 PM on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at Harrell Funeral Home, 4435 Frontier Trail, Austin, TX. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be 7:00 Wednesday. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church, 126 W. Oltorf, Austin, TX. Burial will follow at Forest Oaks Memorial Park. Nacio el 25 de enero de 1949 en Valle Hermoso, Tamaulipas a Antonia Rodriguez Villafaña y Jose Gutierrez Muñoz. Maria Antonia era costurera por muchos años y con cariño hacia ropa para su familia y amigos. Le encantaba el estudio y tomaba clases de ingles cuando podia a pesar de trabajar tanto y crear a tres hijos. Originalmente de Mexico, Maria Antonia amaba este país que fue su hogar por mas de 50 años, realizando su sueño de hacerse ciudadana el 30 de agosto de 2018. Maria Antonia fue precedida en muerte por sus padres, hermanas Maria Del Carmen Gutierrez, Cecilia Gutierrez y Bertha Gutierrez, hermanos Benito Gutierrez, Delfino Gutierrez, y Reyes Gutierrez, y su hijo Salvador Avila. La sobreviven sus hijos Adolfo Avila, Jr. (esposa Manuela Herrera), Sandra Avila Ramirez (esposo George L. Le encantaba jugar lotería, "tiquetitos" y bingo casi al igual que le encantaba escuchar música, cantar y rezar su rosario. Mami no podia esperar mejorarse para poder atender misa con su familia como antes. Valoraba tiempo con sus hijos y nietos y nunca dejo de preocuparse por ellos sin importar la edad. Viajo en avión por primera vez el día que obtuvo su ciudadania y decidió viajar cada año a Florida para visitar a sus queridos familiares. Servicio funeral sera el miércoles 6 de febrero en Harrell Funeral Home, 4435 Frontier Trail, Austin, TX 78745 de 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. con rosario a las 7 p.m. Misa sera el jueves 6 de febrero en St. Ignatius, Martyr Catholic Church, 126 W. Oltorf, Austin, TX 78704 y entierro después.
