Madeleine "Toots" Austin, 90 of Des Moines, Iowa passed away on February 1, 2020, at Bishop Drumm.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. at Merle Hay Funeral Home, 4400 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 also at Merle Hay Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Madeleine Marie Van Gundy was born on August 31, 1929 in Des Moines, Iowa; she was the daughter of Raymond and Florence Van Gundy. She attended school in the Des Moines, area. On February 7, 1948 Madeleine was united in marriage to Fredrick Jack Austin in Des Moines and they had lived in Des Moines, Denison and Adel. She had work at Jacobson Candy Company. She enjoyed sewing, crafting, dancing, bingo, gardening and fishing. They had been members of the New Testament Baptist Church for a number of years.
