Stephanie Kay Markert, 71, died February 5, 2020 resulting from injuries as the victim of a pedestrian - vehicle hit-and-run. Stephanie was born April 13, 1948 in Estherville, Iowa to John and Erma Gustin.
Stephanie is survived by her son Michael (Nikol) Markert, of Houston, TX, daughter Sarah (Blake) Campbell, of Ankeny, IA, sister Nicki (Gustin) Becker, brother John Gustin, her ex-husband and good friend, Joel Markert, 8 grandchildren (Conner, Tyler, Duncan, Ean, Ryan, Madeline, Grace and Grayson), two nieces, Kathi and Suzy, and a nephew (Ben).
Stephanie graduated from Fort Dodge High, and spent her life as a Mother to her children and a House Director (House Mom) to thousands of sorority women in the Midwest, Texas, and Colorado. Most recently, Steph was the House Director for Delta Gamma sorority at Drake University.
Her loving, caring spirit, and her room-filling smile and laugh will be remembered by all who knew her.

a sorority house director/house mom over her lifetime. She loved her kids, her grandchildren, her family and all of "her girls." She was a master paper crafter and card maker.
Stephanie loved cheering on her Cyclones and Denver Broncos. She enjoyed attending many Christian music concerts. Stephanie loved her mountains. She spent as much time as she could at the moraine at Rocky Mountain Nation Park and served as an Elk Bugle Corps volunteer. Her Fort Collins home in the foothills of Horsetooth Mountain was her refuge and sanctuary.

Services are scheduled for Monday, February 10, 2020 at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway, West Des Moines. A visitation will be held 10:00 -11:00 am with a Celebration of Life to follow at 11:00 am.
