Lorraine Ora Wallace
Lorraine Ora Wallace, 89, died 23 November 2014, at home in Knoxville. She had leukemia. Lorraine was born 29 August 1925, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Simon A. and Edna Harold Thomas. Lorraine met Roy Wallace in post-war Portland, Oregon. They married on 17 March 1947, in Knoxville. They raised five children in Union County, and in retirement lived 19 years in Clearwater, Florida, returning to Knoxville in 2008. A woman of faith, Lorraine was always active in church and for a few years was a missionary correspondent. She had a beautiful voice and was proud to have sung in the choir at a Billy Graham Crusade at Neyland Stadium. Lorraine did genealogy and wrote a two-volume autobiography, now treasured by her family. She enjoyed traveling, including her favorite, a trip to the British Isles. She and Roy visited every state except North Dakota. She and a daughter made regular day trips to explore rural areas and small towns. She was always ready to go adventuring and enjoyed talking to the folks she met. She celebrated her 70th birthday with a hot air balloon ride. Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband Roy F. , Brock; Mona Wallace and Penny Wallace, all of Knoxville; Jana Wallace of Pennsylvania; and son Terry Wallace of Maynardville; six grandchildren, Eric and wife, Heidi, Brock; and Philip Brock; Nathan and wife, Erica, Ritter; Zackary Ritter, Ami and husband, Tracey, Flatford; and Lisa and husband, Jimmy, Merritt; and seven great-grandchildren, Kendra and Quentin Brock, Dillon and Tyler Anderson, Parker and Preston Merritt, Jackson Ritter; and a sister, Peggy Vossen. Private interment will be at Lyons View. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, in the parish hall at Church of the Good Shepherd, 5337 Jacksboro Pike, Knoxville.
