Purkey, James H., age 89, of Halls went to be with the Lord Wednesday, January 14, 2015, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Binghamtown Baptist Church, Middlesboro, Kentucky and was a proud WWII Veteran Private First Class receiving the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement in ground combat against the armed enemy during WWII in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater of operations. He is preceded in death by his wife, Verda L. Purkey; parents, Bedford and Mattie Purkey; brothers, Walter Purkey and Sillis Purkey; and sisters, Hassie Harvey and Nettie Brewer. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Charlotte Hensley and Curtis Mike Taylor and grandsons, Dustin D. Hensley, and Shawn L. Hensley and wife Melissa. The family will receive friends Wednesday January 21st from 5-7pm at Gentry Griffey Chapel. The Funeral service will follow at 7pm with the Rev. William Bingham III officiating. Internment is scheduled for Thursday, January 22, 2015 at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery Lyons View at 11:30 am with full military honors.
