Mary Ogden
Mary Peoples Ogden, age 90, went to be with the Lord on January 31, 2015 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Mary was an exemplary wife, beloved mother, and shining example of Christian love. Born in North Carolina, she moved to Knoxville at the age of 16 and graduated from Old Knoxville High School in 1941. She met the love of her life, Harry Kay, at First Presbyterian Church, where they met singing in the choir. She attended the University of Tennessee and they were married December 5, 1944. They moved to Fountain City in 1954. She enjoyed hiking, fishing, gardening, traveling (especially to the beach), volunteering with mobile meals and serving in other church ministries. She was active in the Presbyterian Women at First Presbyterian. She was preceded in death by her parents, J.C. and Lillie Peoples; a brother, J.C. Peoples, Jr.; a sister, Ruth Ann Peoples Maloney; and a daughter; Ann Lapsley Ogden Stout - who was married to Albert Stout of Knoxville. usband David, of Lititz, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Emily of Nashville, Sarah of Knoxville, Stephen and wife Amanda, of New Haven, Connecticut, Peter of Delaware, Ohio, and David of Princeton, New Jersey; five great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends at Gentry Griffey Funeral Chapel on Sunday, February 1, from 4-6 pm. A Memorial Service will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Monday, February 2 at 2 pm, The Rev. William Pender officiating.
