Gay Cross

Marie Gay Galyon Cross, of Powell, Tennessee, passed on June 12, 2015 at Tennova North Knoxville Medical Center. Gay was a 1965 Central High graduate as well as Tennessee Tech. She was a dedicated retired Early Childhood Education teacher with the Knox County School System. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Marie Galyon and her husband, Lloyd David Cross. She is survived by her sister, Brenda Galyon Newton and brother-in-law, Donald Newton; nieces, Katherine Newton, Michelle Newton, Joyce Newton Beck (Marc), Donnell Newton Lancaster (Shane); great-nieces and great-nephews; and cousins, Peggy Cox, Herman Thompson. Gay is also survived by children, Kim Cross-Ward, Nikki Cross, Michael Cross; grandchildren, Jennifer Purdom, Jessica Baird, David Ward, Allison Ward; and great-grandchildren, Adam Long, Emily Cross, Parker Baird, Sophia Ward, Ayden Ward. The family will receive friends at Gentry Griffey Funeral Chapel, 5301 Fountain Road, Knoxville, Tennessee on Saturday, June 20th from 2-3 pm, followed by the funeral service at 3pm.
